Power of a Thunderstorm
Here's a quick post for ya. Last night I went biking around 9-10 and the "light show" was AMAZING. A thunderstorm was coming, but the pre-lightning was a show in itself. The whole sky would light up and be as bright as midday! After about 20 minutes of this and when I was at home sitting on the porch the actual bolts started. It just puts one in awe of just one single aspect of Creation and how awesome that one thing can be.
I know I end up talking about this quite alot, and it get's tiresome; but here I go again. I just don't understand how someone can think that all of this is just a matter of chance. It just boggles my mind that someone can believe that something so beautiful is just there, because of random air conditions. It's just so awesome to think that God not only saves us by grace, but on top of that provides "proof" of His existence and power in Creation. Huge flashes of light that some would call dangerous in that that one strike could kill me, are also so powerful that it fills our whole vision; and the sound of which makes our ears numb.
The other thign that happened was that we had about a twelve hour power outtage down in the valley, and even in that it makes me more aware about how dependant we make ourselves on technology. God has given us incredibly intricate minds to create technology, and yet He still gives us opportunities to experience life in simplicity. Instead of "want and now", we end up with "need and patience". For example, waiting for water to boil on a bbq instead of pretty much instant hot water through an electric kettle; it makes it taste better knowing that you had to wait for it. In a world where people are speeding through life, and then doing all they can to try to "stay young"; it's quite humbling to think that we are the ones who are making the world pass by so quickly.
"Oh Susan!" said Jill. "She's interested in nothing nowadays except nylons and lipstick and invitations. She always was a jolly sight too keen on being grown-up."
"Grown-up, indeed," said the Lady Polly. "I wish she would grow up. She wasted all her school time wanting to be the age she is now; and she'll waste all the rest of her life trying to stay that age. Her whole idea is to race on to the silliest time of one's life as quick as she can and then stop there as long as she can."
It's so true. In the age of cosmetics and makeovers, people spend money and time trying to look older and then when they get past the "proper age" they do the same thing trying to look younger.
I feel like this post seems a jumble, but I think my point is that in this information age we try to do too much. There's so much to absorb that it's dizzying. Each day speeds by and before you know it you're through another week, another month, another summer and to me it feels like I didn't enjoy the little things.
I know personally I've been looking at most of you friends and seeing how you have jobs, and how some of you are getting your licences and the rest. And I've been wanting to do just the same. The problem is that I feel like I've become to preoccupied with getting a job, and wanting my licence and wanting to "grow up" instead of slowing down and enjoying the things I can and should do right now.
And I'm not saying I should be lazy and not work towards those things, but I need to slow down and prioritize so that I don't end up looking back and then kicking myself for not experiencing each moment.
"25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble." Matthew 6:25-33
